The Forum on the Future of the EU is a major project where young people from all over Europe come together to discuss and shape our shared future. This dynamic gathering provides a unique opportunity for youth to engage in meaningful conversations, share ideas, and collaborate on solutions for the challenges facing our continent.
In 2024, we discussed European Enlargement and reform of the Treaties, partenring up with organizations all over the EU and candidate countries and gathering more than 600 young people and experts from all over Europe. The result was a document tih several policy briefs and proposals for a future reform, along with a major event that took place in Madrid.
In this legislature, the European Union is facing a new enlargement towards the East. At Equipo Europa, we believe that it is very important to inform young Europeans about the history and identity of these countries in order to understand the European integration process of each of them.
With our policy briefs on each of the candidate countries completed, trans-national teams are currently working on proposals based on the four topics of this year's edition. They will be presented and debated in the event that is taking place in Madrid this October.
These Policy Briefs, which have been elaborated by Equipo Europa´s EU enlargement and reform research group in recent months, are a look at the culture of seven countries that could become part of the European family in the coming years, but also include recommendations to facilitate integration at both EU and individual country level.
This resurgence of enlargement raises many questions. At Equipo Europa we have sought to answer these through our previous policy briefs on candidate countries and in the present work which seeks to elucidate the necessary reforms the EU must undertake to get ‘ready’ for enlargement. This is a crucial aspect of this work, the idea that the EU as it currently stands is not perfectly suited for an expanded membership has driven our work.
Would you like to participate in the new edition of the Forum for the Future of the EU? If the 2023 edition was amazing, 2024 will be even more so.
